Our Lives Matter tournament has started. In the past, this tournament was called the Goddard Riverside Tournament. So, every year this tournament takes place in July. However after the recent crime that took place on the upper west side a.k.a. Sol Bloom; we were pleased that this tournament still took place.

Our Lives Matter

In light of the recent murder that took place in Sol Bloom Park, We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports has named the tournament “Our Lives Matter”.

Indeed, sports have a way of bringing the community together. Be sure to read our Sports Championships Unify Cities post. When cities and people come together; great things can be accomplished.

Due to the violence, that happened; We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports is on a mission to make things right. Of course, our leader, Henry Perez was instrumental in setting up rules. In addition to setting up rules; Henry emphasized the following:

  • Appropriate conduct and language
  • No swearing from any Coaches or Players
  • Sportsmanship – Be sure to read our Youth Sportsmanship Behavior post to read about the importance of getting along with your peers

Henry was on a mission to restore faith. At the same time, Henry made it clear that negativity breeds problems. Moreover, Henry let everyone know there are ways to express yourself and each player was required to shakes hands at the end of each game and say “good game”.

Our Lives Matter Tournament

The free Goddard Riverside Tournament a.k.a. Our Lives Matter Tournament is at Sol Bloom Park on W 92nd Street, New York, New York.

Due to the prior violence, everyone was hoping things turned out well. No doubt, both children and families from this neighborhood were impacted by the recent crime and were concerned on how things would turn out going forward.

As the tournament continues, to date all of the kids are getting along.

In addition, future blog posts will be live after the tournament concludes.

As always, I welcome your comments.
