We just completed our Jr. NBA Skills Challenge with many of our youth showcasing their talent. It was a great day not only for the parents and participants but for the host, Coach Perez, as well. At the start of the event, youth were given instructions on the 5 different stations they would be competing in.

The stations consisted of dribbling, shooting, layups, passing, and defense. All participants had up to 30 seconds to complete the challenge of each station. However, speed of completion played a key role in determining the winners. In other words, the participants who completed a challenge before the others scored higher than their competitors. Hence, at the end of the competition, the total scores of each participant were tallied to determine the ultimate winners of the challenge.

Jr. NBA Skills Challenge – Awards

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place awards were given out to those whose overall timings were the best. The participants who won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were super excited as evidenced by the smiles on their faces and their level of excitement. Others, who didn’t quite make the mark, still received a participatory card/ consolation prize as an acknowledgment of their efforts and dedication during the Jr. NBA Skills Challenge.

Feedback On The Jr. NBA Skills Challenge

As this was We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports  first Jr. NBA Skills Challenge, we wanted to get feedback on how everyone felt about the whole event, i.e., whether it was a success or not. Speaking of which, we were pleasantly surprised and glad to receive such a positive and passionate response from our volunteers. According to them, “the kids were saying that they had a lot of fun”. They also mentioned that it was a really good experience watching everyone work together during the competition.

Final Word

We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports will be submitting the final scores from the local competition to see if anyone qualifies for the next round. We saw the benefit of hosting this event. Therefore, regardless of whether anyone advances or not, we are grateful to all those who signed their children to be a part of this special event. We hope this will be the first of many healthy skills competitions that will give young people a place to participate and compete. We also hope that such events will help us promote a healthy lifestyle among our youth.
