Gianna Bryant grew up with a special love for the game of basketball. In fact, her love of the game was a special bond between her and her dad, Kobe Bryant. Be sure to visit our Kobe Bryant Sports Legacy post to read about this tragedy that took place.

Gianna Bryant

Not only was she the daughter of Kobe; but she had hopes of following in her dad’s footsteps. Her hope was to play the game for the WBNA.

Of course, she had a lot of passion for the game.

Sadly, her young life came to an end on January 26, 2020. As one of 9 people in a helicopter headed to a weekend tournament; her life was cut short in this tragic crash.

In essence, both Gianna and Kobe watched basketball games nightly. With her love of the game; she aspired to be a special player in the game.

Since Kobe always hoped he would have a son to teach the sport of basketball to; it was his daughter, Gianna who told him over and over again; she has this, ain’t no boy for that – I got this. With her positive attitude, she had her dad teach her the fundamentals of the game.

Kobe Bryant’s Charity Organization

With Kobe and Gianna’s death, Vanessa Bryant has announced that the charitable organization her husband ran, the Mamba Sports Foundation was going to be renamed the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation in memory of both Gianna and Kobe.

Of course, the goal of the foundation will be to continue the work Kobe started. Their mission will be to continue to provide opportunities in sports too young people.

Similarly to We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports, they are on a mission to continue to provide opportunities for emotional and physical development through their program.

Vanessa’s goal is to continue to put in place a sports program to help young athletes everywhere in memory of Gianna and Kobe’s legacy.

In summary, her love and dream for the game have been taken away at a young age.
